The Panther Volleyball squad fought through a tough weekend of conference play at the SCAC West/Central Crossover. On the first day we faced Austin College and Colorado College, dropping both matches. Against Austin, the Panthers came out strong with a set 1 victory, and then could not hang on for the rest of the match, losing 3-1. Later that afternoon we fell again to No. 8 Colorado 3-0.
On day 2, the team cam back with a 1-1 record to finish out the weekend. In the morning match, we lost to Trinity 3-0, but finally turned it around in the next few hours with a decisive 3-0 win over Hendrix College. We are looking to learn from this weekend, and only get better from there!

BSC Tri-Match Tuesday October 19, 2010
In our final two home matches of the season we came up short, losing to both Martin Methodist (3-1) and West Alabama (3-0). While both losses were extremely disappointing and most definitely not the last impression we wanted to leave on our home court, it was an experience that we have to learn from. Losing is never fun however eventually you have to move on and grow from the mistakes that were made and that is exactly what we have been focusing on during practice this week. The team is focused, determined and working hard to make sure that the play we demonstrated Tuesday evening will not be repeated. We are not letting these losses define us, instead we are letting them inspire us to strive and get better. Its time to come together as a team and fight to the finish. If we have anything to say about, these are the last two losses you will hear about for the rest of the season! GO PANTHERS!!

SCAC East/Central #1
This past weekend we were at home with four conference matches. We played Sewanee and Centre on Saturday and the Millsaps and Oglethorpe on Sunday.
First up was Sewanee. We had a lot of fun in this match winning in three games and playing as a team. In between our games on Saturday we scouted matches of other teams for the coming games on Sunday. Next we played Centre on Saturday night. We came out really strong, focusing on minimizing errors and making a lot of runs. We won that match in three games as well.
Sunday morning we played Millsaps College. It was a fun competitive 5-game match where we came out on top. Millsaps was a very good team and we were glad to have beaten them. Our last match of the weekend was against Oglethorpe. We beat them in a rather unsteady three games to one but were glad to get the win.
This week practice will be tough but we need to get ready for our next big conference weekend that will be very competitive.

Another Home Tournament!
Our past home tournament went great! We went 4-0 for the weekend! After traveling to Texas the previous weekend, it was nice to be home again. It was a good weekend for us to prepare for our upcoming confrence tournaments, one of which will be home again! This past weekend was also Parent weekend and senior night. After the tournament ended on Saturday, all the parents and players gathered in the hall of fame room for a family BBQ dinner and ice cream cake for dessert. It was great for everyone to catch up with their family members and enjoy the evening together. Congrats to our seniors, Christine and Jennifer, on all their accomplishments!!! We love you!

McKannan breaks career dig record!!
In Birmingham-Southern’s match against No. 17 Southwestern University this past Friday in Georgetown, Texas, senior libero Jennifer McKannan became BSC’s all-time digs leader, breaking the previous record held by Sarah Harris.
McKannan broke the record with her fifth dig against Southwestern. Harris, who graduated last year, tallied 1,484 career digs; McKannan now owns 1,596 career digs in the young 2010 season. She is also second on the career list for digs per set with 4.31.
GREAT WORK JENNIFER!!
Southwestern
This was a long weekend! All four of our matches went to five set. The first day didn't really go as planned. We dropped our first two matches of the season to Southwestern and Austion College. We bounced back the second day beating Trinity and Rhodes! Beating Trinity was a really exciting experience for the team because it is the school Coach Fricke coached at before coming here. We now know how important energy is for us, and we plan to work on that as well as improve on other aspects throughout the season. While the trip to Texas was fun as well as experiencing true mexican food at Mamacita's, we are really excited to be back at home this weekend for our next tournament!
